Vimala Raman was born in Sydney, Australia to an Indian parents. She was a model before she tried her luck in the film industry. She started her acting career with a Tamil film 'Poi' in 2006. But her talent in acting got critics appraisal and public recognition from her Malayalam film Time. She had  4 films released in 2007 alone.

She then acted several films in Tamil, Telugu and Kanada languages. She did her first Bollywood debut with Hindi film 'Mumbai Mirror' in 2013. She has two films to be released in 2018, they are; Afra Tafri (Hindi) and Bilathikada (Malayalam).
